Annual Out Loud Anthology
 

The Out Loud Anthology is a tribute to Midwest Writing Center's Out Loud participants, their talents and their love of writing. Out Loud generally meets the last Thursday of each month; click here for more details and a list of upcoming dates.

 

**Each participant whose submission is published in Out Loud Anthology V (along with the "Out Loud Of the Month" pieces) will be entered into a drawing for free full tuition to the 2012 David R. Collins Writers' Conference (a $225 value) which will occur June 28-30, 2012. The drawing will take place at MWC's annual meeting in May, 2012, at the Deere Wiman House. Participants must be present to win.

 

Anthology Submission Requirements:

-Anyone who has participated in Out Loud at any time is invited and encouraged to submit to this fifth annual anthology publication.

-Entries will be accepted between October 1, 2011 and January 21, 2012 via Submission Manager.

-Each applicant may submit up to three (3) submissions (poems or prose). Prose must be limited to 1,000 words or less.

-All submission content must be appropriate for all ages.

-Submissions must be the unpublished and original work of participants.

-Each submitter must mail a copy of the Statement of Authenticity form, located below, to Midwest Writing Center at 225 E. 2nd St., Ste. 303, Davenport, IA 52801.

 

Submission Instructions:

1. Create your submission in a Microsoft Word document. On page 1 of your document, type in "Out Loud Anthology Submission", your name and if you wish, a short biography. Start a new page (press CTRL-ENTER), type in your name and title of the piece then type in or copy and paste your first submission exactly how you would like it to appear in the anthology. If you are submitting more than one piece, start a new page, include your name, title and the body of the piece for your second and/or third submissions. Save the document to a place where you will remember it on your computer. You will now have all of your submissions in one document which you will submit via Submission Manager.

2. Go to MWC's Submission Manager webpage at www.midwestwritingcenter.org/submissions.

3. If you already have an account, log in; click "submit your work" and upload your file.

4. If you do not already have a Submission Manager account, fill in the required information in the form, select your submission file to upload where indicated and click "Submit".

5. Make sure you receive a message at Submission Manager indicating your submission was successfully transmitted.

 

Submission Benefits and Other Important Information:

- Individuals whose work appears in the anthology will receive a copy at no charge. (If you know of a potential sponsor who may be willing to help with publication costs, please let us know.)

- All submissions will be considered for publication it the anthology by the Out Loud Anthology Committee and the Out Loud Anthology Committee will be responsible for selecting pieces to include. With permission of the author, all "Out Loud Of the Month" pieces will be included in the anthology.

-The anthology will include an ISBN number.

-Copies of the anthology will be available for purchase by Out Loud Participants and the general public at the Midwest Writing Center and Amazon.com.

-Each participant whose submission is published in Out Loud Anthology V (along with the "Out Loud Of the Month" pieces) will be entered into a drawing for free full tuition to the 2012 David R. Collins Writers' Conference (a $200+ value) which will occur June 28-30, 2012. The drawing will take place at MWC's annual meeting in May, 2012, at the Deere Wiman House. Participants must be present to win.

- All participants whose submissions appear in the anthology will be invited to read their submissions at a launch party at a date to be determined in the spring of 2012.

-Please proofread your work. Your work will not be edited and will appear in the anthology exactly as you submit it. Because some formatting, spelling errors or grammatical errors can be intended by the author and the Out Loud Anthology Committee has no way of determining that, submissions are not edited and will appear in the anthology exactly as submitted.

-The anthology is partially sponsored by the Riverboat Development Authority.
