The David R. Collins Children’s
Literature Festival is named after its eponymous
founder, a beloved author and teacher who
passed away in 2001. David founded the Festival in 1978
and guided its subsequent growth. Now, it continues in
his
memory— dedicated to his goal of encouraging future
generations of readers and writers.
Each elementary school in the
Mississippi Valley community is invited to share in the
excitement at the David R. Collins
Children’s Literature Festival at the Davenport River
Center on October 25, 2011. Home-schooled children also
are
encouraged to participate.
Each adult supervisor
may bring four students from grades 3, 4, 5, or 6. The
cost for an adult supervisor and four students
is $25.
You may bring an unlimited number of
students, but you must have one adult supervisor for
every
four students.
Festival authors and
illustrators will meet with assigned groups to discuss
their work, share ideas, and answer questions.
Students will have the opportunity to visit the Book
Sale table which will feature the presenters’ books.
Books
and artwork by these authors and illustrators will be
available for purchase and autographing. Books range
from $2-$30. Proceeds
from these sales will be used for future festivals.
Check-in on Tuesday,
October 25 is from 8:00-8:45 A.M.
The program begins at 9:00 a.m. so please
be seated
quickly after you register.
Children, with their
supervisor, will be provided an assigned schedule and
packet of materials.
