The Midwest Writing Center's mission is: Fostering appreciation of the written word and supporting its creators. The simplicity of the Midwest Writing Center's mission sums up the commitment to the art of writing and support of writers.

Who are we?

Founded thirty years ago by David Collins and Evelyn Witter, the Midwest Writing Center offers opportunities for writers and readers alike throughout the Quad Cities region. This online site serves as an information gateway to literary events and writing resources throughout eastern Iowa and western Illinois, with services for emerging and established writers.

We met our endowment fund grant challenge! Thanks so much to all of you who supported this effort. We will continue to raise money for our endowment fund which will enable us to continue to provide quality programming at low or no cost. We are now accepting nominations for the second David R. Collins Literary Achievement Award to be presented at the March 15 Literary Banquet. The Literary Banquet is made possible by a grant from the Scott County Regional Authority.

Nominations for the second David R. Collins Literary Achievement Award may be submitted from December 15 until January 31. The nominations may be emailed to the Center mwc@midwestwritingcenter.org or mailed to 225 E. 2nd St., Davenport, Iowa 52801

The nominations will be judged by a group not affiliated with the Midwest Writing Center. The award will be presented at the Literary Awards Banquet on March 15. The nominator should provide evidence of the nominees qualifications.

Criteria for the award are:

Must be a published author
Helpful to other authors and readers in the community
Must live in our six county area
Promotes literacy
Preference is given for membership in a local writing group or organization
